Teaching

I ran a very successful and friendly private practice from my home in Surrey for over 20 years teaching one-to-one flute, recorder and piano, recorder consorts and also provided aural coaching for students learning any instrument elsewhere.  My pupils have a 100% pass rate for ABRSM examinations.

Since moving to Gloucestershire in 2019, I have focused on developing these workshops and my work for the CPD courses offered by The Phoenix Collective.

“Competitions are for horses, not artists”

Béla Bartók, Composer

Adjudicating

The place of competitions in music is debatable, as articulated so succinctly by Mr Bartók above (!) but I really enjoy adjudicating informal in-house school competitions.  I always have something positive to say even to the youngest candidates or those starting out.  Music should belong to everyone and just sharing it with others is a fundamental for learning a life-long skill.

“We were fortunate enough to have Henrietta Rowsell adjudicate our Senior School music competition in October.  Henrietta brought her many years of performing and teaching experience to the rôle, giving the students extremely helpful comments about their performances.  She highlighted both the successes and the areas that could be worked upon all within with a warm, encouraging, friendly but professional manner.”
